WIPO And KIPO To Develop Multimedia Content On Intellectual Property

lundi 7 mars 2005, par Collecte CND R.L

The World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) have agreed to jointly develop interactive multimedia content on intellectual property (IP) for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

"Intellectual Property Panorama," which will have 10 modules dealing with patents, trade secrets, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright, patent information, marketing, licensing, e-commerce, IP audit and enforcement of intellectual property rights, will be rolled out over the next two years.

The first 30-minutes overview module will be released in March 2005.

The Director General of WIPO, Dr. Kamil Idris, expressed confidence that this new tool "will greatly assist in efforts to develop an intellectual property culture that encourages the growth of SMEs so as to provide sustainable employment, which is a prerequisite for social, culture and economic development."

"This interactive multimedia content should prove to be a versatile educational tool that would also be suitable for use in e-learning programs for owners, managers and key employees of companies, in particular in small and medium-sized enterprises, in developing countries, as well as at some leading universities in the Republic of Korea and abroad," he added. Dr. Idris thanked KIPO for its contribution.

Mr. Kim Jong-Kap, Commissioner of KIPO, emphasized that "Intellectual Property Panorama" "will contribute significantly to the efforts to improve awareness, understanding and protection of intellectual property worldwide, which would also be beneficial for Korean enterprises that are exporting or licensing IP assets in foreign markets in different parts of the world."

While most existing educational material on IP deals essentially with the legal aspects of intellectual property rights (IPR), "Intellectual Property Panorama" will cover new ground by bringing out in layperson’s terms the practical business relevance of the tools of IP for enhancing enterprise competitiveness and profits.

It will be made available worldwide through national and regional intellectual property offices and SME support institutions.

Likewise, over the next two years, in a phased manner, the remaining nine modules, each of some 15 to 20 minutes duration, will be published.

The IT related tasks of the cooperative project have been entrusted to the Cyber Academy of the Korea Invention Promotion Association, which has demonstrated leadership as a maker of digital content. The project is scheduled to be complete by December 2006.
